BANPRESTO, the toy brand under Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company renowned for its diverse range of prize figures and character models, is set to release the latest addition to its "Ultraman Monster Series": the "Chinza-ju Coin Monster Kanegon." This figure will come in two variations and is slated for a May 2026 release!
The endearing and popular monster Kanegon (カネゴン), with a mouth like a coin purse overflowing with coins, first appeared in episode 15 of Tsuburaya Productions' 1966 tokusatsu series "Ultra Q." Kanegon was originally a human boy named Kaneda Kaneo. His greed led him to a mysterious cocoon, and after being absorbed by the small monster that hatched from it, he transformed into a creature that feeds on coins and banknotes. Kanegon must consume at least 3,150 Japanese Yen daily to survive, and if the amount displayed on his chest meter drops to zero, he will perish.
The "Chinza-ju" series, which features various monsters from around the world in sitting sofubi form, is now releasing the latest "Chinza-ju Coin Monster Kanegon." This beloved and adorable monster is faithfully recreated in a charming chibi proportion, standing approximately 12 cm tall. It includes two distinct color variations: the iconic Retro Color Ver. and a dazzling Metallic Ver. that shines with a golden luster. Despite its chibi design, Kanegon's unique zippered mouth and the intricate textures of its uneven body are meticulously detailed.
