Marvel Studios' 2022 Disney+ series "Moon Knight" garnered a somewhat mixed reception upon its release. However, compared to contemporary projects like "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law," "Ms. Marvel," and "Echo"—which faced significant criticism and ridicule from viewers—"Moon Knight" received a relatively positive response. A considerable number of fans appreciated its experimental style and complex character development.
Fans who enjoyed "Moon Knight" have long wondered why Marvel has yet to greenlight a second season. While some speculated about low viewership or unmet critical expectations, series creator Jeremy Slater recently offered a different explanation.

Slater, currently promoting his new screenwriting project "Mortal Kombat II," recently spoke with ComicBook.com. He revealed that the lack of movement on a "Moon Knight" second season stems from lead actor Óscar Isaac's commitment to script quality. Slater explained that Isaac's original contract essentially stipulated, "We will do more stories when we find stories that he is creatively excited to tell."

Slater continued, stating that Marvel couldn't simply "snap their fingers" and bring Isaac back for another adventure. He emphasized Isaac's deep involvement in the character's future trajectory. Slater noted, "Part of the challenge, and part of the fun, is figuring out: What stories does Óscar want to explore, and how does he want that character to be used? What's something that would entice him to get back and play in that sandbox one more time?"
Slater also admitted uncertainty about his own potential return for a second season. He stated, "You know, if they did a second season, I doubt I would be creatively involved. I don't have any inside information in terms of where the character is. I haven't talked to Marvel in three years at this point, so I'm clueless. Is there going to be a 'Moon Knight' movie? Will there be a 'Midnight Sons' movie? Will there be a second season? I'm as much in the dark as everyone else." Even so, Slater expressed hope and optimism that fans will see Isaac return as Moon Knight, believing Isaac enjoyed the role and was proud of the work and positive fan feedback. He concluded, "So, I would be surprised if we didn't see him again, but that's just me speculating as a fan."
