Netflix recently announced that the first installment of its new "The Chronicles of Narnia" film series, "The Magician's Nephew," would be its first in-house production to receive a global theatrical release, a move that surprised many. As Netflix's unprecedented theatrical blockbuster, its production budget is also on an unprecedented scale. Renowned entertainment journalist Matt Belloni recently revealed on his podcast "The Town" that the production cost for "The Magician's Nephew" has now exceeded $320 million, making it Netflix's most expensive film to date.

Before "The Magician's Nephew" broke this record, the reigning champion for Netflix's highest-budget film was "The Electric State," released last year with a cost of nearly $320 million. Now, "The Magician's Nephew" has narrowly surpassed it. Other films rounding out the top five include "The Irishman," which cost $225 million, and "Red Notice" and "The Gray Man," both budgeted at $200 million.
