Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo, a vocal opponent of the proposed Paramount/Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, has escalated his campaign. He previously joined industry peers in signing a petition against the merger and urged the public not to readily trust the reassuring promises made by Paramount/Skydance CEO David Ellison. Now, Ruffalo has launched his latest offensive: co-authoring an op-ed with an antitrust policy analyst for "The New York Times."

In the column, Ruffalo revealed that while nearly 5,000 people have signed the petition, many within the industry are still afraid to publicly voice their support, fearing retaliation from Paramount/Skydance. Ruffalo admitted that numerous colleagues approached about signing the petition expressed private support for the movement but were hesitant to officially join the public endorsement.

However, Ruffalo doesn't blame them, as their concerns about retribution are well-founded. He cited an example where the founder of the independent magazine "The Ankler" reportedly had Paramount/Skydance pull their website advertisements after being photographed at an event carrying a bag of "Stop the Merger" pins.
