"Ally" centers on a piglet squid of the same name living deep in the South Pacific. Ally dreams of one day seeing the sun and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary. But when a mysterious plane crashes into the ocean, her peaceful life is thrown into chaos. She is forced to embark on an incredible journey to the surface, meeting a diverse and loyal group of unexpected companions who help her navigate the challenges along the way.
The film is directed by Bong, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Yu, his assistant director on "Okja." A release date has not yet been set. Production on "Ally" began in 2019 and is expected to be completed in the first half of next year, with a theatrical release also planned for next year.
