Megahouse, the renowned Japanese model manufacturer, has announced a new small-scale plastic model kit series, "VA-KIT PLATOON," a spin-off from their popular VARIABLE ACTION KIT line. The first release will be "VA-KIT PLATOON Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch," based on the upcoming animated film "Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch." A release date has not yet been set.
"Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" is a two-part animated film from Sunrise, celebrating the studio's 50th anniversary. The first installment is set to premiere in Japan on November 20, 2026. The project boasts an impressive creative team, with "Armored Trooper VOTOMS" series creator Ryosuke Takahashi serving as supervisor and acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii ("Patlabor," "Ghost in the Shell") at the helm. Fans can look forward to iconic mecha designed by Kunio Okawara, such as the Scopedog, making an appearance. Yuhta Sono, known for his work on the "Armored Trooper VOTOMS AT Stories" manga, and Shishin Tsunoki, mechanical designer for "Kaiju No. 8," are also contributing to the film's mechanical designs.
A special teaser trailer for "Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" has already been released, offering a glimpse into Sunrise's incredible technical prowess. The footage seamlessly blends 2D animation with 3DCG, vividly depicting the exhilarating high-speed roller dashes of the Scopedog and more realistic gunfire and smoke effects. The excitement is further amplified by a newly composed score from Kenji Kawai, celebrated for his work on "Mobile Suit Gundam 00."
Only development prototypes for the "VA-KIT PLATOON Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" have been revealed thus far, showcasing five distinct Scopedog units equipped with various loadouts. These prototypes are slated for display at the 64th Shizuoka Hobby Show, which kicks off tomorrow.
