From BANDAI SPIRITS' model kit division, BANDAI HOBBY, comes the latest entry in the Master Grade (MG) lineup—the 1/100 scale Gunpla series renowned for its exceptional parts separation, detailed inner frames, and incredible articulation. Revealed today at the 64th Shizuoka Hobby Show, a painted prototype of the "MG 1/100 Gundam Liberty Astray Red Frame" from the side-story manga "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ASTRAY" was officially unveiled, with a release scheduled for December 2026.
The official side-story manga, "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ASTRAY," is set in C.E. 74, taking place between the events of "SEED DESTINY" and "SEED FREEDOM." The story follows protagonist Lowe Guele as he tackles the problem of civilian mobile suits being frequently caught in combat. His solution, developed under the concept of "a civilian mobile suit capable of self-defense," is the MWF-JG001 Gundam Liberty Astray Red Frame. This machine not only features a redesigned joint structure and improved super-foamed metal armor, but its entire frame is constructed from a newly rediscovered material that can convert physical impacts and even "light" into electrical power, dramatically increasing pilot survivability.
As seen in the displayed prototype of the MG 1/100 Gundam Liberty Astray Red Frame, the kit utilizes completely new molds to bring its form to life. While reminiscent of the classic Red Frame, its design is a complete overhaul with updated details. It also boasts an articulation design that is even more flexible than previous MG Astray series kits. For armaments, it still wields its signature katana, the "Kiku-ichimonji," and can store its beam sabers and shield on its back.
