Japanese model manufacturer Kaiyodo showcased an in-development prototype of their latest product, "ARTPLA SCULPTURE WORKS Mechagodzilla (1975) Re:Imagination," at today's 64th Shizuoka Hobby Show. This new release from the ARTPLA series of non-articulated plastic model kits is inspired by the tokusatsu monster film "Terror of Mechagodzilla." A release date has yet to be determined.

First appearing in the 1974 film "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla," Mechagodzilla was an invasion weapon crafted by the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens. Its exterior armor was constructed from super-strong Space Titanium, meticulously mimicking Godzilla's appearance. Initially, Mechagodzilla was even disguised with a synthetic skin, making it look identical to the real Godzilla. Its capabilities far surpassed Godzilla's, boasting overwhelming firepower with countless missiles, independent flight, and a barrier that could nullify heat rays. In the following year's sequel, "Terror of Mechagodzilla," after Mechagodzilla was defeated by the combined efforts of Godzilla and King Caesar, the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens and Dr. Mafune recovered and repaired it. They enhanced the power of its finger missiles and other armaments, and tragically, transformed Dr. Mafune's deceased daughter, Katsura Mafune, into a cyborg, integrating her into Mechagodzilla's central computer.

The "ARTPLA SCULPTURE WORKS Mechagodzilla (1975) Re:Imagination" is sculpted by renowned Kaiyodo artist Taro Murai, who reinterprets the iconic scene of Mechagodzilla's rampage through the streets of Yokosuka with his distinctive personal style. The buildings within the diorama meticulously capture the toy-like proportions and aesthetic of Showa-era tokusatsu props, while also incorporating realistic crack textures. The Mechagodzilla figure itself intricately details the extensive riveted structures across its body and the irregular dents and bumps on its large metal plates, presenting a realistic texture that stands apart from the suitmation seen in the original film.
