The long-running hit sitcom franchise "The Big Bang Theory" is set to launch its third spinoff series this summer, titled "Stuart Fails To Save The Universe," and the first trailer has just dropped. Based on the footage, it's clear this new show is a major departure from the franchise's original multi-cam, low-budget format, evolving into a surreal, high-concept comedy packed with special effects, sci-fi elements, and action sequences.

Kevin Sussman is confirmed to return and lead the series as Stuart. The lineup of returning supporting cast members from the original show also includes Lauren Lapkus as Stuart's girlfriend Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert, and John Ross Bowie as Sheldon's colleague, Kripke. Chuck Lorre, the executive producer of all "The Big Bang Theory" related series, will continue to serve as a writer and will executive produce alongside original series co-creator Bill Prady.

Official synopsis: Comic book store owner Stuart accidentally breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, triggering a multiversal apocalypse and forcing him to take on the mission of restoring reality. He's aided by his girlfriend Denise, his geologist friend Bert, and the quantum physicist/all-around pain-in-the-neck, Kripke. Along the way, they encounter parallel universe versions of the beloved "Big Bang Theory" characters we know and love, and as the title suggests, the process of restoring reality doesn't go smoothly. The series is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Max on July 23.
