Netflix made a surprise announcement at this year's Upfronts presentation, confirming it has taken over Sony Pictures' "Grown Ups" comedy franchise, which grossed over $700 million worldwide. The streaming giant is now moving forward with a third installment, reviving the IP after a 13-year hiatus. This marks another instance of Netflix producing a sequel to one of Adam Sandler's older films originally from other studios, following last year's "Happy Gilmore 2".

The core cast from the first two films—Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Kevin James, and David Spade—are all expected to reprise their roles. However, Dennis Dugan, who directed the first two "Grown Ups" movies, will be replaced by Kyle Newacheck. Newacheck has previously helmed two Sandler-led Netflix films, "Murder Mystery" and "Happy Gilmore 2".
As is customary, Sandler will once again co-write the script, collaborating with his long-time writing partner Tim Herlihy.
