"The Hawk" is written by Ferrell and his longtime producing partner Chris Henchy, who also serve as series creators. The ensemble cast includes Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Molly Shannon, Toby Huss, and Luke Wilson.
The official synopsis states: Ronnie Hawkins, once the world's number one golfer in 2004, is now struggling in the twilight of his career, desperately trying to reclaim his former glory. While his body urges retirement, his spirit insists he's not done yet. Both his ex-wife and his son Lance, a rising star in the golf world, believe his time has passed. However, Ronnie is just one major tournament win away from completing a career Grand Slam. He steadfastly refuses to accept that his best days are behind him, convinced that he's just one shot away from the greatest comeback in golf history. The series is set to premiere on July 16.
