The official Mobile Suit Gundam Gunpla flagship store, THE GUNDAM BASE, has just unveiled its latest exclusive kit: the HG 1/144 Gundam Double X [Clear Color]. This special release is slated to hit Gundam Base stores on May 23, 2026.
The GX-9901-DX Gundam Double X is a powerful mobile suit secretly developed by the New United Nations Earth to symbolize a new era and solidify their sovereignty. It inherits the design concepts and combat data of the legendary Gundam X, the most powerful MS from the 7th Space War, and even incorporates its original cockpit. The Double X boasts vastly improved overall performance and, crucially, allows its devastating "Satellite System" to be activated by a non-Newtype pilot. Mounted on its back are two new "Satellite Cannon Mk-II" units with enhanced microwave-gathering efficiency, delivering firepower several times greater than the original. The system is so efficient it can fire multiple shots after just one energy transmission.
The HG 1/144 Gundam Double X [Clear Color] is based on the well-regarded standard-release kit from 2013. For this version, all the black, white, red, yellow, and dark blue armor pieces are rendered in translucent plastic. The dark gray parts used for the inner frame and joints are molded in a gunmetal color with a metallic fleck, providing a nice contrast. This clear finish gives the model a brilliant, crystal-like sheen when it catches the light and is perfect for builders looking to experiment with custom lighting, LEDs, or fluorescent paints, offering a distinct aesthetic compared to the regular release.
All other features remain identical to the original 2013 release. The kit boasts a sleek and powerful sculpt with a solid range of motion, including double-jointed elbows and knees for dynamic posing. The back-mounted reflector panels can be deployed, with their distinct honeycomb pattern recreated using foil stickers. The twin "Satellite Cannon Mk-II" units extend via a deployment gimmick, allowing you to recreate its iconic firing stance. For armaments, the kit comes with its Hyper Beam Sword, the dedicated Buster Rifle, and the unique Defense Plate, which doubles as a shield and physical blade.
