The official "Mobile Suit Gundam" Gunpla flagship store, The Gundam Base, has just unveiled its latest exclusive item: the HG 1/144 Gundam F91 [Afterimage Clear Color Ver.]. This special kit is scheduled to hit shelves at all Gundam Base locations starting June 13, 2026.
The Gundam F91 is a cutting-edge, downsized mobile suit developed by the Strategic Naval Research Institute's (SNRI) "Formula Project." Standing at a mere 15.2 meters, its performance was the pinnacle of its era. It came equipped with advanced systems like a Bio-Computer and Bio-Sensors to reduce the pilot's burden, making it accessible even to non-Newtypes. The F91 also utilized a Multiple Construction Armor (MCA) structure, an evolution of the Psyco-Frame technology from the ν Gundam and Unicorn Gundam, which significantly reduced armor weight without sacrificing strength for a massive boost in mobility. Furthermore, the F91 could enter a "Maximum Operation Mode" to unleash its full potential. In this state, its chest and shoulder heat-dissipating fins would deploy and its faceplate would open to vent excess heat, while its armor generated the MEPE (Metal Peel-off Effect), creating the iconic phenomenon of "afterimages with mass" in its wake.
The HG 1/144 Gundam F91 [Afterimage Clear Color Ver.] is based on the standard 2013 retail release of the kit. For this version, all the white, red, yellow, and blue parts have been replaced with translucent molded colors infused with glitter, perfectly capturing the F91's "afterimages with mass" appearance. The plastic gives off a brilliant, crystal-like sheen under light and provides a fantastic canvas for customizers looking to add LEDs or glow-in-the-dark paint, offering a distinct style you can't get with a regular kit.
Other features are identical to the original release. The kit boasts the F91's sleek, sharp design and excellent articulation, including double-jointed elbows and knees. The leg thrusters and the two back-mounted Variable Speed Beam Rifles (V.S.B.R.) are both articulated. By swapping parts, you can also replicate its "Maximum Operation Mode," complete with the open faceplate and deployed shoulder fins. The armament includes a Beam Rifle, Beam Launcher, two Beam Sabers, and a Beam Shield.
