Japanese toy brand Max Factory's plastic model kit line, PLAMAX, is set to release a 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the VF-19P Excalibur (Planet Zola Patrol Specification) from the OVA series "Macross Dynamite 7" (マクロス ダイナマイト7), a spin-off of the classic mecha anime "Macross 7." Scheduled for November 2026, the kit will retail for 8,800 JPY.
"Macross 7," which debuted in 1994, stands as the second TV anime in the "Macross" franchise. It continues the timeline and world-setting of its predecessor, depicting events 35 years later. The story follows protagonist Basara Nekki (熱気バサラ) as he bravely confronts the alien Protodeviln (プロトデビルン) during their attack on the Macross 7 fleet, fighting with his powerful singing voice. Alongside bandmates like Mylene Flare Jenius, their adventure unfolds.
"Macross 7" garnered significant acclaim and popularity, leading to a host of spin-off OVAs, films, and novels. Released in late 1997, the four-episode OVA series "Macross Dynamite 7" serves as an epilogue to the TV anime. It chronicles Basara Nekki's journey of self-discovery, which inadvertently leads him to Planet Zola (ゾラ), where he hears tales of the mysterious "Galaxy Whales." During this adventure, he pilots the VF-19P Excalibur (Planet Zola Patrol Specification), once again unleashing the immense power of his song.
This PLAMAX 1/72 scale model kit of the VF-19P Excalibur (Planet Zola Patrol Specification) from Max Factory stands approximately 22.7 cm tall. It faithfully recreates the mecha's combat-ready Battroid form (note: this product is non-transformable), boasting excellent articulation and intricate detailing across all its components. The Space-Time Resonance Speaker Units (時空共振スピーカーユニット) on its head and shoulders are meticulously reproduced with newly sculpted parts. Additionally, a same-scale Basara Nekki pilot figure is included.
