TAKARA TOMY’s long-running ZOIDS toy franchise continues its 40th anniversary-era modern remake line, ADVANCED Zi SERIES, with the newly announced “AZ-16 Liger Zero Jager”, scheduled for release in late December 2026.
The lion-type Zoid “RZ-041 Liger Zero” differs from ordinary Zoids equipped with the Organoid System, as it was developed based on a “complete wild body.” Its defining feature is the CAS, or Changing Armor System, which allows its armor and weapons to be swapped according to different environments and tactical needs. In addition to the highly versatile Type Zero Armor, which brings out the raw potential of the wild body, the Liger Zero can also equip specialized armors such as the close-combat Schneider, high-speed Jager, and heavily armed Panzer forms.
“AZ-16 Liger Zero Jager” is built around the frame parts used for the previous “AZ-02 Liger Zero”, now fitted with newly tooled armor for the high-speed Jager form. The redesign focuses on emphasizing the unit’s most iconic weapon system, the large ion boosters. Not only have the boosters been enlarged to better match the proportions of the base body, they also feature an internal deployment mechanism using spring parts. Once the motorized body starts walking, pressing the button will deploy the boosters for a dynamic action gimmick.
During motorized walking, the head, limbs, and tail move in sync to create a more lifelike walking action. The LED-equipped cockpit and Zoid Core also light up, enhancing the sense that this is a true metal lifeform. Even when the power is off, the kit still offers plenty of manual play features, including movable blade-like head antennas, blade sensors across the body, and opening side thrusters on the waist. The cockpit can also be opened to seat the included 1/72 scale pilot figure of Bit Cloud, the protagonist of “ZOIDS New Century ZERO.”
