Production is officially underway for "The Batman - Part II," the next chapter in Robert Pattinson’s saga. Director Matt Reeves announced that filming has begun, also revealing that the highly anticipated sequel will be set against the backdrop of a wintery Gotham City.
Following the confirmation of several returning cast members, Reeves took to social media to officially welcome Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan to the ensemble, sparking major excitement among fans.
Reeves confirmed the casting on X (formerly Twitter), first welcoming Johansson with a GIF from her 2013 sci-fi thriller "Under the Skin," followed by a post confirming the "Winter Soldier" actor would also be heading to the dark and gritty world of Gotham.
While their official roles have not been announced, multiple outlets are speculating that Johansson and Stan will portray Gilda and Harvey Dent, respectively. If the rumors are true, Stan's Harvey Dent would be on the path to becoming the iconic villain Two-Face, leading to theories that the sequel will further explore the relationship between Gotham's justice system, mob forces, and city-wide corruption.
In addition, Reeves confirmed that Charles Dance has joined the production, with many believing he may be playing Harvey's father, Christopher Dent.

Although the plot remains highly confidential, previous reports have suggested the story may revolve around an unstable alliance formed by Batman, Jim Gordon, and District Attorney Harvey Dent to track a serial killer and combat Gotham's entrenched mob presence. The film's working title, "Semper Vigilans," has also fueled fan speculation that the Court of Owls might appear in the film.
"The Batman - Part II" is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
