Back in early March, Arnold Schwarzenegger surprised fans by announcing that the long-gestating third installment of "Conan the Barbarian," a project nearly four decades in the making, was finally moving forward with Christopher McQuarrie, director of "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation," "Mission: Impossible - Fallout," and the upcoming "Dead Reckoning Part One" and "Part Two," at the helm. Recently, Schwarzenegger offered further details on when filming for the sequel is expected to begin.

In an exclusive interview with the fan site The Arnold Fans, Schwarzenegger reported that the third film is currently slated to begin production next year. He elaborated on the project, stating that if the movie had been made immediately after the first, "it wouldn't have worked." He explained that the essence of "King Conan" lies in Conan having been king for forty years, now much older and no longer as agile. Someone wants him dead, but as king, he's grown somewhat complacent and tired of the job, seeking a change of pace. Schwarzenegger drew a comparison to Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven," noting that "King Conan" will be similar in tone but will feature "more spectacular fight scenes."
