Bandai Spirits' collectors division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has announced the first major release for the 45th anniversary of "The Super Dimension Fortress Macross": the "DX Chogokin SDF-1 MACROSS"! This highly anticipated piece from their transforming die-cast toy line is slated for a November 2026 release.
First appearing in the original "The Super Dimension Fortress Macross" anime, the SDF-1 MACROSS is a colossal 1.2-kilometer-long space battleship. After humanity became aware of extraterrestrial threats, the United Earth Government was formed and spent a decade retrofitting the alien vessel "ASS-1" that crashed on Earth in 1999. The ship is armed with a massive arsenal of cannons, missiles, and energy barriers, and most famously, it can transform into the giant robot-like "Storm Attacker Mode." The battleship also houses a fully functional city within its hull, capable of sustaining tens of thousands of military personnel and civilians on long-distance space voyages. However, during its launch ceremony in 2009, the MACROSS's main cannon system automatically fired upon a Zentradi fleet, triggering the devastating First Space War.
The "DX Chogokin SDF-1 MACROSS" measures an impressive 65cm (approx. 25.6 inches) in total length, bringing it to a 1/2000 scale. The design was thoroughly supervised by the original mechanical designer, Kazutaka Miyatake, with product engineering handled by Hiroyuki Motoki (T-REX). While faithfully recreating the imposing size and silhouette from the anime, Miyatake-sensei personally added a wealth of new details, significantly enhancing the model's definition and intricate feel. The bridge and various thruster nozzles feature blue LED light-up functions. The internal city sections also light up, with four different color variations to represent different times of day and emergency alerts.
This figure utilizes a partial die-cast frame and a precision-engineered articulation system to recreate its transformation sequence, allowing it to switch between "Cruiser Mode" and "Storm Attacker Mode" without any parts-swapping. Additionally, the ARMD-class space carriers docked on its sides, the "Daedalus" and "Prometheus," can be detached. The Daedalus features an opening bow mechanism and comes with in-scale miniature figures of the Destroid Monster (x3) and Destroid Tomahawk (x5). The Prometheus includes in-scale miniatures of the VF-1 Valkyrie and Super Valkyrie. The set also comes with a Zentradi scout ship, which cleverly doubles as a magnetic switch to activate the various LED light features.
