The horror film "The Backrooms," adapted from the viral online collective story, officially premiered this Wednesday. One of the film's key selling points is its director, Kane Parsons (pictured below), who previously created a series of "The Backrooms" short films. At just 20 years old, this marks Parsons' feature directorial debut. While some have hailed him as a prodigy, others have questioned whether he truly helmed the film, suggesting a "ghost director" was secretly at the reins.

Recently, a wave of online speculation has emerged, questioning Parsons' capabilities as a director and suggesting that co-producer Osgood Perkins, known for directing "Long Legs," was the actual filmmaker behind "The Backrooms." However, actor Mark Duplass, a member of the film's cast, wasn't having it and took to social media to defend Parsons' reputation.
Duplass recently posted a rebuttal to a questioning user, stating: "With all due respect, I don't recall seeing you on set, but I was there, and Kane was fully in charge, more so than many directors three times his age." Parsons himself acknowledged that Perkins served as a significant mentor, offering extensive guidance throughout the production and providing him with a fully equipped team to realize his vision. Ultimately, whether Parsons personally directed the film is best confirmed by those who were present on set.
