The Witcher 3 Is Getting a New DLC Over a Decade Later: 'Songs of the Past' Arrives in 2027, Sparking 'Witcher 4' Theories

More than a decade after its debut, the classic role-playing game "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" is confirmed to be receiving a brand new DLC, "Songs of the Past." [[OBJ_4950]]CD Projekt RED recently made the official announcement, confirming it will co-develop the expansion with Fool's Theory. It is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Since its launch in 2015, "The Witcher 3" has released major expansions like "Hearts of Stone" and "Blood and Wine." After "Blood and Wine" was released in 2016, players have not had any new large-scale content to continue Geralt's journey. Consequently, "Songs of the Past" is being seen as a significant return to the iconic witcher after many years.

Fool's Theory has previously worked on [[OBJ_8100]]CD Projekt RED projects, including "The Witcher 3," and their renewed collaboration has drawn attention to the potential scale and content of the new DLC. However, officials have only revealed the title and launch platforms at this stage, without providing details on the story, gameplay, or a specific release date. There has also been no mention of plans for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or the upcoming Switch 2.

Given that the title "Songs of the Past" implies a retrospective theme, speculation has begun to mount over whether the new story might explore the pasts of Geralt or Ciri, or even connect to the upcoming "The Witcher 4," which is currently in development. However, any official direction on the narrative has yet to be revealed.

[[OBJ_4950]]CD Projekt RED also stated that with the addition of new content, the base game of "The Witcher 3" will receive an update and adjusted system requirements to ensure future performance and compatibility. For players who have waited years to return to Geralt's world, "Songs of the Past" is undoubtedly set to become one of 2027's most highly anticipated RPG expansions.
