Fans familiar with Nicolas Cage know that "Cage" is merely his stage name, not his actual surname. His real last name is Coppola, making him the nephew of acclaimed "The Godfather" director Francis Ford Coppola. To avoid accusations of riding on his famous relative's coattails, he adopted his current stage name, inspired by the Marvel superhero "Luke Cage." What's even more surprising is that "Nicolas Cage" has now officially become his legal name.
In a recent interview published by "Variety," Cage explained his decision: "I'm Nicolas Cage now. I changed my name legally last year. I'm Nick Cage in life, and I'm Nick Cage on camera. 'Tis better to be the patriarch of my own little family than the clown cousin on the margins of someone else's, so I decided I'm going to bring it on and be 'Cage'."
With his strong connection to Marvel heroes, Cage also addressed another superhero-related question in a separate interview with "Complex." As the voice actor for "Spider-Man Noir" in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and having played a live-action version in the new series "Spider-Noir", Cage unequivocally named Andrew Garfield as the best "Spider-Man" actor in cinematic history: "I thought Garfield was a really great Spider-Man. I thought he did a terrific job; he's a marvelous actor. For all the younger Peter Parker/Spider-Men, he was the one that I thought was really something to watch. I would put Garfield as, in my view, the best Spider-Man in cinema."
