BANDAI HOBBY, the model kit division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS, has officially announced the latest addition to its 1/100 scale "MG (Master Grade)" Gunpla series. Known for its excellent part separation, intricate internal frames, and extensive articulation, the MG line will welcome the "MG 1/100 Gundam Liberta Astray Red Frame," a new mobile suit from the official side story "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ASTRAY," slated for release in December 2026.
The official side story manga "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ASTRAY" is set in C.E. 74, between the events of "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY" and "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM." To address the issue of civilian work-use mobile suits frequently being drawn into combat, protagonist Lowe Guele developed the MWF-JG001 Gundam Liberta Astray Red Frame. This new mobile suit was conceived as a "self-defensive civilian mobile suit" and incorporates innovative materials. It features redesigned joint structures and improved Super-Foaming Metal Armor. Crucially, its entire internal frame is constructed from a newly rediscovered material that allows it to convert both physical impacts and light into electrical energy, significantly enhancing pilot survivability.
The "MG 1/100 Gundam Liberta Astray Red Frame" utilizes newly molded parts to recreate its updated frame and exterior design. It faithfully reproduces the mobile suit's taller, more slender proportions from the original design, along with its lightweight Super-Foaming Metal Armor, which increases the frame's light-receiving surface area and the mobile suit's maneuverability. The all-new frame structure not only achieves human-like flexible articulation but also incorporates some of the MG series' most sophisticated interlocking mechanisms, allowing for natural and dynamic poses, such as drawing its katana or executing low-stance slashes.
For weaponry, the kit includes the familiar twin katanas, "Kiku-ichimonji" and "Kotetsu," along with a newly designed Beam Rifle and Shield. Both katanas meticulously recreate blade and sheath details and come with dedicated hand parts for holding the sheaths. They also feature an original mechanism allowing them to combine with the Beam Rifle.
