BANDAI SPIRITS' BANDAI HOBBY division has officially announced the latest entry in its robot-themed "HG" model kit series: the "HG Scope Dog The Gray Witch [Desert Color] (Tentative)." This new kit, based on the upcoming anime film "Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch," is slated for release in November 2026.
"Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" is a two-part anime film project from Sunrise, commemorating the studio's 50th anniversary. The first part is scheduled to premiere in Japan on November 20, 2026. Ryosuke Takahashi, the original creator of the "Armored Trooper VOTOMS" series, is personally supervising the project, with renowned director Mamoru Oshii ("Patlabor," "Ghost in the Shell") at the helm. The film will not only feature classic mecha like the Scope Dog, originally designed by Kunio Okawara, but also new mechanical designs from Yuta Sono, artist for the "Armored Trooper VOTOMS AT Stories" manga, and Shishin Tsunoki, mechanical designer for "Kaiju No. 8."
A teaser trailer for "Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" has already been released, showcasing Sunrise's impressive technical prowess in seamlessly blending 2D animation with 3DCG. The footage vividly captures the exhilarating sensation of the Scope Dog's high-speed movement on its leg rollers, along with highly realistic gunfire and smoke. Coupled with a brand-new score by Kenji Kawai, known for his work on "Mobile Suit Gundam 00," the trailer is sure to ignite excitement among fans.
The "HG Scope Dog The Gray Witch [Desert Color] (Tentative)" features a significantly revamped mecha design compared to previous versions. While retaining its signature heavy armor, the kit boasts a more slender and refined silhouette. It meets modern HG standards with intricate sculpting details, excellent color separation through part division, and advanced articulation mechanisms. Notable modern design elements include a front-and-back waist pivot, sliding shoulder joints, and two-axis movable elbow joints. Beyond the main figure, the kit comes equipped with a heavy machine gun, backpack, and pile bunker. Thanks to its extensive articulation and included interchangeable parts, collectors can recreate both its iconic landing pose and formidable turret pose.
