BANDAI HOBBY, the model kit brand under Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company, has announced the latest addition to its "HG (High Grade) 1/100 scale" model kit series from the "Macross" franchise. The "VF-31F Siegfried (Messer Ihlefeld Custom)" from the "Macross Delta" anime is slated for release in December 2026. This highly anticipated kit will be available in both a standard edition and a more elaborate DX edition featuring additional accessories.
The VF-31 Siegfried is a variable fighter utilized by the Delta Platoon, a unit belonging to the civilian corporate conglomerate Chaos, primarily for escorting the musical group Walküre. This particular model is an enhanced version of the VF-31 Kairos. Beyond its extensive arsenal, which includes anti-air beam machine guns, rail machine guns, and assault knives, it also incorporates a Fold Wave System and the multi-functional Cygnus drone. These systems enable it to perform joint missions with Walküre, transmitting their songs and calming patients afflicted by Var Syndrome outbreaks. The VF-31F, piloted by Delta Platoon's ace, Messer Ihlefeld, is specifically optimized for aerial combat. To complement Messer's exceptional piloting skills, each part of the airframe has been tuned to its critical limits, allowing it to excel in high-mobility engagements.
The "HG 1/100 VF-31F Siegfried (Messer Ihlefeld Custom)" kit is an updated version based on previously released models of the same type. Utilizing precise color separation and part division techniques, it faithfully recreates the aircraft's sleek proportions and high-density detail in 1/100 scale. Furthermore, "insert molding" technology is employed to achieve the intricate gray lines and color blocks on the white fuselage and wing parts. The kit also includes five-layer stickers made from aluminum-vapor-deposited PET film, which are exceptionally thin, offer high opacity, and boast vibrant colors, allowing for easy replication of the numerous aircraft markings for a more realistic finish.
The kit achieves its triple transformation into Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid modes through partial parts swapping. This simplified transformation mechanism allows for flexible articulation while ensuring each mode closely matches its original design artwork. Both the stowed head for Fighter and Gerwalk modes, and the complete head for Battroid mode, utilize newly molded parts to accurately capture the Messer Custom's unique design. In Battroid mode, the simplified transformation mechanism grants the entire body a wide range of articulation. The kit comes with multiple interchangeable hand parts, allowing the Messer Custom to wield two Assault Knives and its Beam Gun Pod for dynamic combat poses.
The Fighter mode's cockpit canopy can be opened and closed, and it's crafted from a polarizing material that shifts color with the reflection angle. The underside features interchangeable parts to display the landing gear in its deployed state. In addition to a 1/100 scale Messer pilot figure that can be placed in the cockpit, the kit also includes a 1/100 scale Kaname Buccaneer (Walküre costume) figure.
The more luxurious "DX Edition" not only includes the standard model kit but also adds a newly illustrated double-sided acrylic standee and water-slide decals featuring Kaname Buccaneer, both drawn by Chisato Mita (CAPCOM), the original character designer for "Macross Delta." These additions allow collectors to display the fighter alongside the members of Walküre.
