"In the Hand of Dante" is adapted from Nick Tosches' 2002 novel of the same name. The story unfolds across two intertwined timelines. One narrative follows Dante Alighieri as he struggles to complete "The Divine Comedy" while trapped in a loveless marriage, eventually fleeing to Sicily to dedicate himself to his masterpiece in memory of his lost love. The parallel storyline is set in modern-day New York, where archaeologist Nick is tasked by a black market smuggling ring to authenticate a manuscript of Dante's "Divine Comedy." Unable to resist the temptation, Nick steals the manuscript and embarks on a desperate escape with his lover, Julietta.
