'The Flash' Star Grant Gustin Says Spider-Man Is The Only Other Hero He Could Play, Believes Peter and Barry Would Be Friends

Grant Gustin, who starred as Barry Allen in The CW's [[OBJ_3837]]Arrowverse series "The Flash," recently discussed some fun connections between Marvel and DC heroes during a Q&A panel at GalaxyCon Richmond 2026. He revealed that Spider-Man is the only other superhero he believes he could realistically portray in a live-action project.

When a fan asked if Barry Allen and Peter Parker would get along, co-star Danielle Panabaker immediately chimed in, saying the two would be "best buds." [[OBJ_5370]]Gustin agreed, pointing out that a key part of Barry's appeal is how normal and relatable he is to audiences—a quality he shares with Peter Parker. Because of this, Gustin believes the two would definitely hit it off.

The panel brought together several key cast members from "The Flash," including Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells/Reverse-Flash), John Wesley Shipp (Henry Allen/Jay Garrick), and Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost).

Cavanagh added that both characters are "everymen" in a sense. This not only speaks to Barry and Peter's place within their respective superhero worlds but also highlights their shared scientific backgrounds and their ability to maintain a sense of everyday humanity while confronting cosmic-level threats and villains.

For that reason, Gustin elaborated that The Flash and Spider-Man are likely the only two superheroes he could portray in live-action because of their inherent similarities. Cavanagh, however, praised Gustin's acting range, stating he couldn't think of a character Gustin couldn't play. In response, Gustin joked that he actually has a long list of heroes he's not suited for, including Batman, Superman, and The Hulk.

While Tom Holland remains the definitive Spider-Man for many viewers, making it difficult to imagine another actor taking up the mantle, Gustin could certainly be a name discussed among fans if Marvel were to ever develop a live-action Spider-Man series.

In recent years, DC and Marvel have also engaged in more crossover collaborations in the comics, with titles like "Flash/Fantastic Four" and "Spider-Man/Superman." Although a live-action crossover has yet to materialize, the growing emphasis on the multiverse in superhero films and series leaves plenty of room for speculation about unexpected team-ups on the big screen in the future.
