Despite recent gameplay footage for Insomniac Games' PS5 exclusive, Marvel's Wolverine, showcasing stealth takedowns and infiltration, the studio is making it clear that Logan won't be a traditional stealth character. The goal is to let players find a combat rhythm that feels true to Wolverine, balancing between being a "covert hunter" and unleashing "all-out fury."

In an interview with IGN, Game Director Mike Daly was asked if players could rely solely on stealth to clear combat areas or if open conflict was inevitable. He explained that while many scenarios can't be completed using only stealth, some sections can be cleared quietly as long as enemies remain unaware of the player's presence.
However, Daly emphasized that Insomniac is not designing Wolverine to be a "full-blown, super-stealth character." In the game, Logan uses stealth not because he fears being discovered or wants to avoid a fight, but because it's often the most efficient way to execute a mission. In other words, stealth is a means to approach his prey and thin out enemy ranks, not the ultimate goal of the gameplay.

"Making Wolverine a full-blown, super-stealth character is not our priority," Daly stated. "He uses stealth because it's the most efficient way to accomplish his goals, not because he's afraid of being found—he's not afraid of a fight. So whether to use stealth or combat, the choice is always in the player's hands."
More importantly, stealth takedowns will be linked to the game's rage system. Daly revealed that players can build their rage meter with stealth kills, and this accumulated rage won't decay. This means that after quietly dispatching several enemies, players will have a greater incentive to charge headfirst into battle, using their stored-up momentum to clear the remaining foes in a more explosive fashion.

"We're leaving it up to the player to decide how they want to get through a combat setup," Daly said. "Often the most optimal path is a balance between a little bit of stealth and finding the right moment to go loud and take out everybody else."
Therefore, the ideal combat flow in Marvel's Wolverine isn't about going full-stealth or charging in mindlessly. It's about striking a balance between methodical setup and violent eruption, allowing players to choose for themselves when to switch from hunter to beast.
Additionally, Daly confirmed that unlike Insomniac's past Marvel's Spider-Man series, players will not switch to controlling other characters. This game is "all about Wolverine," and players will control Logan for the entire experience. The development team wants the story and gameplay to remain tightly focused on the character himself.
Marvel's Wolverine is scheduled to launch exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026.
