Donnie Yen's standalone return to lead the second "John Wick" spinoff film, "Caine," has officially begun production, with two new cast members recently announced. Deadline exclusively reported that rising star Mason Thames, who gained recognition last year for starring in the live-action "How to Train Your Dragon," is confirmed to join the cast.
The other new addition is veteran British actor Bill Nighy.
Beyond Nighy and Thames, the supporting cast also features Japanese-British singer Rina Sawayama, who previously appeared with Donnie Yen in "John Wick: Chapter 4," and Australian actor Dacre Montgomery, known for his role in "Stranger Things."
Donnie Yen, who portrayed the blind assassin Caine in "John Wick: Chapter 4," will not only star in "Caine" but also direct the film. Chad Stahelski, director of the main "John Wick" quadrilogy, is co-producing, while Mattson Tomlin, showrunner for the Netflix animated series "Terminator Zero," is penning the script. The film is expected to heavily incorporate Hong Kong martial arts action styles, showcasing Yen's signature combat prowess.
