The North American box office has recently been utterly dominated by horror films. "The Backrooms," produced on a mere $10 million budget, reportedly grossed over $81 million in its opening week. Meanwhile, "Obsession," with a budget of only around $1 million, has now accumulated a global box office total of $170 million, miraculously seeing its weekly revenue climb rather than fall, selling more each week in a stunning counter-trend. Witnessing this fervent horror boom, even Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg has taken keen notice and offered enthusiastic praise.

Spielberg, currently focused on promoting his new film "Disclosure Day," stated in a red carpet interview, "I'm really happy for them. I think it's fantastic, and these films were basically made for very little money. Especially 'Obsession' with a budget under $1 million, and the other one, I think, only $10 million or $9 million, yet they've achieved such great success. I truly applaud them. I haven't seen 'The Backrooms' yet; I plan to watch it after all the work for 'Disclosure Day' is done. But I have seen 'Obsession,' and I loved it."
