Shortly after U.S. President Donald J. Trump took office early last year, he ordered the repeal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) employment protection programs that had been widely adopted across various industries. Hollywood was not immune, with major players like Amazon, Paramount Global, and Disney Studios reportedly making adjustments in response. This significant shift has, in turn, left many professionals who previously benefited from DEI policies without their former protections.
Laverne Cox, the transgender actress who rose to prominence for her role in the Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black," recently spoke with "Attitude" magazine, lamenting that her income has been directly impacted by Trump's policy decisions.

Cox stated, "Over the past year, thanks to this administration's policies, I've lost a lot of money. I've tried my best to keep busy, filming, doing brand work, and speaking engagements, but I never thought even university speaking opportunities would disappear." She continued, criticizing the administration: "This administration is taking severe punitive measures against anything that has a DEI or gender ideology bent, and businesses are really scared. Over the past year or two, I've had to start dipping into my savings and retirement. While it's a blessing that I finally have retirement funds to use, no one really wants to use them. If this policy is affecting me, it's certainly affecting other people."
