The BBC has made a surprising announcement: the British broadcaster is partnering with Japan's Kadokawa Group to produce a brand-new live-action adaptation of "Kiki's Delivery Service." This marks the second live-action iteration of the beloved IP, following the 2014 Japanese feature film. However, this new series will feature Western actors rather than Japanese talent. The first season of the series is slated for ten episodes, each with an approximate runtime of thirty minutes.

"Kiki's Delivery Service" is based on the acclaimed novel series by author Eiko Kadono. With multiple sequels in the original literary work, the series has ample source material to develop into several seasons. The most widely recognized adaptation remains Hayao Miyazaki's self-written and directed 1989 animated film, which was notably the highest-grossing Japanese film of that year.
The script for the upcoming series is being penned by Irena Brignull, who co-wrote the 2015 animated film "The Little Prince."
