As one of the longest-running adult animated series in American television history, "The Simpsons" has already made the leap to the big screen with a feature film. It seems illogical, then, that "Family Guy" has yet to receive the same treatment. Seth MacFarlane, the show's creator, long-time executive producer, and a core voice actor, has long envisioned bringing "Family Guy" to the big screen. He revealed plans for such a project as early as 2007, even intending to craft the film as an old-school musical, blending live-action and animation.
Despite years of development, MacFarlane previously admitted that he consistently lacked the time to oversee its completion, leading to its continuous postponement.

Recently, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's podcast "Awards Chatter," MacFarlane was once again asked about the progress of a "Family Guy" movie. This time, however, he didn't give a serious answer, instead offering a self-deprecating, humorous response.
MacFarlane stated, "The 'Family Guy' movie is something that's always been in the back of my head. I have a very clear idea of what it would be. It's an arrow in the quiver to be used when everything else goes to hell. I always feel like if my career ever takes a catastrophic hit, like I make a really bad movie or a really bad TV show, the only thing that's going to redeem me in the eyes of the public is the 'Family Guy' movie, and that's when I'll make it."
