Japanese model brand PLUM has announced the latest addition to its "Plafia" character model kit series: "Doala (Visitor Uniform Ver.)," based on the popular mascot from Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). This new kit is slated for an August 2026 release.
Doala, the beloved mascot of the Chunichi Dragons baseball team in Japan's NPB, has been an active and highly popular character since 1994. Modeled after the popular koalas at Nagoya's Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Doala's design has undergone several refreshes over the past 32 years, evolving from a plump, pink-faced koala to its current agile form. During games, fans often spot Doala's distinctive presence on the sidelines, engaging in various spontaneous interactions and performances. These include his famous "still art" where he stands motionless, staring blankly ahead, and his traditional backflip challenge during the "Lucky 7" stretch after the bottom of the seventh inning. However, due to Doala's physical condition, the backflip tradition has been suspended in recent years.
The "Plafia Doala (Visitor Uniform Ver.)" is an updated version of the previously released standard kit. It features newly sculpted parts to accurately recreate Doala's away uniform, along with additional tampo printing colors to capture the Chunichi Dragons logo on both the jersey and cap. The kit also includes new stickers for replicating different uniform colors or patterns. All parts can be easily detached without the need for nippers, and the overall part count has been kept to a minimum, allowing even beginners to effortlessly assemble this approximately 10cm tall Doala.
For accessories, the base and stand are molded in the same indigo blue as the visitor uniform. Four types of interchangeable hands, a slice of toast (his "salary"), a baseball bat, a bat-shaped megaphone, and a whiteboard are all included and can be stored within the base. Combined with the main figure's flexible articulation, fans can recreate Doala's various hilarious and famous on-field performances, including his cool backflip poses. The background card has also been updated from the standard version, now featuring a team flag design, and can be securely attached to the base using a dedicated clip part.
