Last month, reports indicated that "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," one of the late Dr. Seuss's classic tales, was set for another live-action reboot. However, a sudden reversal today reveals that the new film is, in fact, a sequel to the 2000 Jim Carrey-led movie.
The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively broke the news this morning, adding that Jim Carrey is in talks to reprise his starring role.

Award-winning director Ron Howard ("Rush," "A Beautiful Mind"), who helmed the original film, is confirmed to return to direct. He will also co-produce alongside his longtime producing partner, Brian Grazer (pictured left in the above image).
The screenplay will be penned by the writing duo Alec Berg and David Mandel, known for "The Dictator." They previously co-wrote "The Cat in the Hat," which, like "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," is also based on a Dr. Seuss book.
