Since its debut in 2003, the "Warrior Cats" fantasy novel series has become one of the most iconic young adult literary franchises of the 2000s. Maintaining consistent popularity over the years, the series continues to release new installments, boasting dozens of books and even expanding into the comic book realm.
Naturally, such a massively successful book series has long been a coveted target for screen adaptations. In 2016, Alibaba Pictures acquired the adaptation rights, with plans for a live-action film that was ultimately abandoned.
Now, however, the "Warrior Cats" cinematic universe is moving forward under new leadership. Disney announced today that it has made a significant deal to acquire the distribution rights for the series, with plans to develop it into an animated television show.

While the animated series project was initially announced and entered production two years ago, Disney is now officially joining as both a distributor and co-producer. The "Warrior Cats" animated series will be helmed by AC Bradley, a co-writer for Marvel's "Ms. Marvel" and "What If...?", who is set to serve as showrunner. The series is slated for a 2028 premiere on Disney+, though an exact release date has yet to be scheduled.
