The sequel to "Alien: Romulus," a spinoff within the "Alien" franchise, has been in development for nearly two years without a director officially attached. While rumors briefly circulated that "A Quiet Place: Day One" director Michael Sarnoski was among the candidates, no further updates have emerged. However, before a director is finalized, 20th Century Studios appears to have found its new screenwriter.

Renowned entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman recently revealed on his Patreon page that Brian Duffield (pictured above), director of recent 20th Century collaborations like "No One Will Save You" and "Whalefall", has been hired to pen the script for the next "Alien" film. It remains unclear if Duffield will also direct the project. Furthermore, Richtman was uncertain whether Duffield's assignment is for the "Romulus" sequel, suggesting the possibility of other "Alien" films currently in motion.
