Noted film journalist Jeff Sneider recently published a special report on Paramount/Skydance's future operational plans on his blog, "The InSneider." Among the most notable development projects detailed were a completely rebooted "Star Trek" film and a mid-to-high budget horror movie.
Regarding the horror film, the studio hopes Warner Bros. Pictures can deliver a phenomenal horror blockbuster similar in style to "The Shining." Ideally, this project would be specifically tailored for Tom Cruise to star in. Cruise has never ventured into the horror genre throughout his career, and if he were to agree, it would indeed be a fresh and intriguing combination.

As for "Star Trek," it was reported last November that "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" directing duo Jonathan Goldstein (pictured left) and John Francis Daley (pictured right) had taken on the writing and directing roles for the new film. This time, Sneider further revealed the planned story outline for the new version.
Sneider described the story of the new first installment as being similar to "Training Day," but set in space. The film will not feature Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, First Officer Spock, or any other familiar legacy characters. Instead, it will introduce a new cast of characters, with the plot centering around an experienced veteran taking a rookie under their wing, detailing their first day together in space.
Sneider also mentioned that in addition to rebooting "Star Trek," Goldstein and Daley are developing an original animated film for Paramount/Skydance, though its story details remain unknown.
