While recently promoting "Confessions II," the follow-up album to "Confessions on a Dance Floor," the Queen of Pop, Madonna, also touched upon her long-in-development, self-written and directed biopic in a new interview with Interview magazine, revealing its current status.
"I was going to make a film about my life," Madonna explained. "I spent two years writing it. I spent two years with a line producer and Universal Pictures budgeting it and casting it. I got into a disagreement with Universal over the budget, because I needed — my life is epic. My life is rich, so I needed a big budget. You know what I mean? It’s not an independent film."

Madonna continued, "I came up with a way to make it for less in Serbia, but I don’t think they took that idea — I don’t know, maybe they just didn’t trust me. One of their first reactions was, 'We don’t trust you to be in Serbia for more than four days.' And I was like, 'Have you read the script?' I’ve been surviving in a man’s world my whole life. I’m not going on a vacation. Anyway, after that, I was in limbo, and then Netflix came to me and said they wanted to make it into a series, but that’s a whole other long process because the script that I wrote with Universal, they won’t let me use unless I buy it from them for a super-shitty price, even though I wrote it. So, don’t ask."

"So that’s where it’s at," Madonna added. "Then I started trying to figure out how to make it as a series. That’s a whole other ball of wax. You have to interview writers, you have to find a showrunner. I couldn’t find anybody. That went on for another eight, nine months. I was like, 'Thank God I have a day job (referring to her music career), because I need to work. I need to create. I need to do what I was put on this earth to do.'" Madonna's comments imply that her biopic project has been halted, with her career focus now solely on creating music.
