This past February, Paramount and Skydance Media inked a three-year first-look deal with Dan Trachtenberg (pictured left), co-writer and director of the upcoming "Predator: Badlands." That agreement is already yielding results. Deadline exclusively reported that Trachtenberg is now set to direct "Freddy the 13th," an animated horror film based on an independent comic of the same name, for their animation division.

While Trachtenberg is not primarily an animation director, he did co-direct the animated feature "Predator: Killer of Killers" last year, which garnered high praise. However, unlike the R-rated "Killer of Killers," "Freddy the 13th" is being positioned as a PG-rated, family-friendly project, meaning Trachtenberg will undoubtedly need to dial back the violence.
The original "Freddy the 13th" comic follows the misadventures of its unlucky protagonist, Freddy Van Winkle. As the thirteenth son in his family, Freddy is prone to mishaps and generally inept, unlike his talented siblings. One night, while babysitting his niece Logan and nephew Lola, Freddy accidentally kills the legendary slasher Nighty Night, thereby inheriting the killer's monstrous powers. As Nighty Night's other rival killers emerge and target him, Freddy has only thirteen nights to break the curse.
