Entertainment outlet Deadline exclusively reported today that Josh Cooley, director of "Toy Story 4" and "Transformers One," is set to helm a new rebooted Lego movie for Universal Pictures. Keanu Reeves, who previously voiced Duke Caboom in "Toy Story 4," is reportedly in talks for a starring role.
Unlike his supporting role in "Toy Story 4," Reeves would take on a lead role this time. The film is also not a purely animated feature, but rather a live-action/CGI hybrid, akin to the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise.

Universal first signed a five-year exclusive deal with the Lego Group in 2020, effectively severing ties with Warner Bros.' "The Lego Movie" franchise and planning to build a new Lego cinematic universe. Under the terms of the agreement, Universal has only six months left; if they fail to move this film into pre-production within that timeframe, the rights will expire.
Two years ago, Universal announced the development of no less than four live-action Lego films. These were to be helmed by "Attack the Block" director Joe Cornish, "Wonder Woman" franchise director Patty Jenkins, "Jumanji" franchise director Jake Kasdan, and long-time "Ninjago" animated series creators Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman. However, all these projects have since been abandoned.
Previously, the only project whose subject matter was revealed was the one led by the Hageman brothers, which was a new "Ninjago" movie.
