BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS collector's division in Japan has announced the latest addition to their "GUNDAM FIX FIGURATION METAL COMPOSITE" series, a line of alloy and ABS finished figures thoroughly supervised by popular mechanical designer Hajime Katoki. The new "MS-06D Zaku Desert Type" from "Mobile Suit Gundam MSV" is slated for release in December 2026.
The MS-06D Zaku Desert Type is a variant developed by the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War for their Earth invasion operations, modified from the "Zaku Ground Type." To overcome the harsh conditions of the African front's savannas and deserts, characterized by swirling dust and intense heat, it features a short-range communication antenna on its head, sand-proof sealing on its joints, lightweight armor, additional auxiliary thrusters on its waist, and a large cooling unit on its backpack.
The "G.F.F.M.C. Zaku Desert Type" is thoroughly supervised by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki. Its design is based on previous Zaku series mobile suits but incorporates numerous new parts to faithfully recreate its distinctive features. These include a straight multi-purpose blade antenna, sharply sculpted shoulder spikes and shield, a gently curved chest armor, additional forearm armor, and an enhanced cooling backpack. The figure also boasts high-quality paintwork, accurately reproducing the color scheme and markings from Kunio Okawara's original illustrations.
The dust-sealed knee joints are crafted with new alloy parts, featuring a sliding armor mechanism on the rear of the thighs and calves that moves in conjunction with knee flexion, ensuring a wider range of articulation. The foot parts incorporate movable segments, with independently articulated toe and heel armor. The head's mono-eye camera utilizes a new articulation mechanism; unlike previous S-type and C-type models that required opening the head armor to rotate the mono-eye, this version allows adjustment by simply removing the power pipe junction part at the back of the head to access an internal dial.
The figure also comes with a rich array of armaments, including a "Zaku Machine Gun" with articulated stock and side grip, a "3-tube Missile Pod" featuring an original gimmick allowing missile parts to be removed, a "2-tube Missile Pod" that can switch between handheld and mounted modes, and two sets of "Grenade Pods" each containing two grenades. Furthermore, the right shoulder shield, left forearm's additional armor, and both side and rear skirt armors are equipped with multiple hardpoints, allowing for the attachment of various magazines, missile pods, the Zaku Machine Gun, and other weapons to recreate an original full-equipment loadout.
