Warner Bros. has surprise-dropped the second teaser trailer and three new posters (below) for "The Digger," the mysterious, big-budget collaboration between Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu ("Birdman," "The Revenant") and star Tom Cruise. While this version of the trailer had leaked online several weeks prior, the studio made it official early this morning, also announcing that the full trailer will launch on July 13.
This latest teaser is unique, intentionally edited to include a montage of clips from Cruise's extensive filmography, resembling a career retrospective for a lifetime achievement award. The move could be a promotional strategy tied directly to the film's plot, or it could signal distributor Warner Bros. Pictures' intent to launch an early awards season campaign for the star.

Synopsis: One of the most powerful men in the world must embark on a wild journey to prove he is humanity's savior, or else the disaster he has caused will destroy everything. The screenplay was co-written by Iñárritu, Mexican author Sabina Berman, and his "Birdman" collaborators Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. The film marks Cruise's return to the comedy genre for the first time in a decade, following "American Made." It is scheduled for a North American release on October 2.
