Hideo Kojima recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about "OD," his upcoming horror title developed in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. He revealed that the game will include a unique system specifically designed for players who might get "too scared to continue," allowing them to push through even the most extreme horror elements.
Kojima expressed his ambition for "OD" to surpass the horror limits achieved by other games, emphasizing its single-player nature and his desire to maximize the fear factor. However, he acknowledged that some players might abandon the game due to intense fear, prompting the creation of a mechanism to help them progress. He remained tight-lipped about the system's exact workings, jokingly stating that revealing too many clues could get him into trouble.
"OD" remains largely shrouded in mystery. The game is published by Xbox Game Studios and involves a collaboration with "Get Out" director Jordan Peele. The initial plan was to feature Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and the late Udo Kier as the main actors. While Kier had completed scans, Kojima did not comment on whether he would still appear in the game following his passing in November. However, Kojima confirmed that filming with various actors for "OD" has now officially begun.
Kojima also disclosed that the concept for "OD" originated during the development of the first "Death Stranding," describing it as a "new game system that no one has ever seen before." He pitched the idea to numerous companies, but most deemed the concept too "crazy" and beyond their capabilities. It wasn't until former Xbox head Phil Spencer understood and greenlit the project that "OD" found its home.
Many view "OD" as Kojima's new endeavor to carry on the spirit of "P.T." The playable teaser for "Silent Hills" caused a sensation in the horror gaming community but was ultimately canceled after Konami and Kojima parted ways. Now, with "OD" once again challenging the boundaries of horror, players are eagerly anticipating the groundbreaking experience it promises to deliver.
