The classic "Batman" comic storyline "Knightfall," which gave fans the iconic moment of Bane breaking the Dark Knight's back, is being reinterpreted this year as an animated film adaptation. The first trailer for the project was released this morning.
The original "Knightfall" saga was a trilogy consisting of "Knightfall," "Knightquest," and "KnightsEnd," along with an "Aftermath" storyline. This new animated version will also be a three-part series, helmed by Jeff Wamester, who previously directed the "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths" animated trilogy. A release date has not yet been announced.

The "Knightfall" storyline follows Bruce Wayne after he is defeated by Bane, suffering an injury so severe it leaves him paralyzed. Unable to continue, Bruce designates his apprentice, Jean-Paul Valley, to take over as the new Batman. However, Jean-Paul's mental state becomes increasingly unstable during his time in the cowl, leading him to become extremely violent and uncontrollable, tarnishing Batman's reputation. After recovering, Bruce demands that Jean-Paul relinquish the mantle, but he refuses and forces Bruce out of the Batcave. Ultimately, Bruce retrains himself and, alongside Robin and Catwoman, defeats Valley to reclaim his title as Batman.
The first installment of the trilogy will chronicle Bane's plot to release all of Batman's past villains from Arkham Asylum, a scheme designed to push the Caped Crusader to his absolute mental and physical breaking point.
