Development for the third installment of "Five Nights at Freddy's" was already underway even before the second film hit theaters, but recent reports indicate a significant change in the creative team. Scott Cawthon, the creator of the original "Five Nights at Freddy's" video game series and screenwriter for the first two films, has reportedly stepped down from writing the third movie. Taking over the screenwriting duties is said to be David Robert Mitchell (pictured below), the acclaimed writer and director behind the horror hit "It Follows".

The news surfaced through Skeet Ulrich, a cast member from the second "Five Nights at Freddy's" film. During a recent appearance at the Sinister Creature Con, a horror-themed comic convention, Ulrich revealed, "We're waiting for the script for the third one, and the guy who wrote 'It Follows' is writing it now, and obviously, Matthew Lillard and I have a lot to do in this one."
Ulrich did not specify whether Mitchell would also take on directing responsibilities, but the announcement has already generated excitement among "It Follows" fans, who hope his unique talent can elevate the franchise and reverse the negative critical reception of the first two films.
However, following reports of Ulrich's comments, the horror news website Dread Central contradicted the information, stating that the latest writer to join the project is actually Gary Dauberman, known for his work on the "It" film series. At this time, it remains unclear which report is accurate.
