The "Feng Shen Ye" soft vinyl figure, crafted by designer Yi Lu, the creative force behind the toy brand Luminous Marsh, was previously only available years ago as a limited, made-to-order release. This year, in conjunction with the "Oritoy Original Toy Project" exhibition, it has been decided to offer the figure for its first general release.
The creative inspiration for Feng Shen Ye stems from an illustration Yi Lu drew several years ago, paying homage to the "Wind God and Thunder God" screen painting by Tawaraya Sōtatsu, founder of the Rinpa school of Japanese art. This concept then evolved into reimagining the iconic Wind God and Thunder God with the distinct style and characteristics of Taiwanese folk religion.
【 Wind and Thunder God Island: Feng Shen Ye 】
In the immortal island of Penglai in the East Sea, there dwells a crimson beast. Its divine might is like a swirling curtain of wind, its valor akin to a mythical Suanni. With flowing robes and unbound hair, it commands awe without anger. Wielding the Primordial Wind-Gathering Gourd, it expels evil, suppresses calamities, and brings succor to all people. Holding the Cosmic Wind-Controlling Fan, it subdues demons, slays monsters, and brings peace to the four directions. The islanders, grateful for its protection, worship it as a god and revere it as "Ye" (Lord).
