Rockstar Games has officially confirmed pricing and pre-order details for "Grand Theft Auto VI". Pre-orders for the title will open at midnight on June 25, 2026. The Standard Edition is priced at $79.99, a $10 increase over the current generation's typical $70 AAA game price, while the Ultimate Edition will retail for $99.99. Both versions are set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar also confirmed that "GTA 6" will feature a "single-player experience" at launch, though details regarding a new "GTA Online" have yet to be revealed.
While the Standard Edition didn't hit the $100 mark some analysts predicted, its $80 price point could establish a new benchmark for future AAA titles. Rockstar also confirmed that physical copies will not include a disc, instead featuring a boxed download code. As the release date approaches, the developer recently unveiled the game's cover art, new screenshots, and additional glimpses of Vice City, ramping up its pre-launch promotional efforts.
However, the Ultimate Edition's content has truly ignited player controversy. According to pre-order details, the premium version will include several items unavailable in the Standard Edition, such as vehicles like the ’95 Grotti Cheetah, ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, and Shitzu Squalo; weapons like the Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers; Vice City Style outfits and tattoo designs; and Jason’s Safehouse-related vehicles.
Furthermore, the Ultimate Edition also grants access to vehicle customization shops like Rideout Customs and One-eyed Willies, the Sara’s Unisex Salon for hair and makeup, clothing stores such as Stock 305 and Goodtime Gear, the Electric Fang Tattoo parlor, the Classic Car Collection dealership, and even the Ptt Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store gang hideout. Because some of this content involves shops and map areas, players are questioning whether this goes beyond mere cosmetic bonuses, arguing that certain locations and activities are being locked behind the $100 version.
"GTA 6" is slated for release on November 19, 2026. With development costs reportedly soaring to between $1 billion and $1.5 billion, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously stated that a balance must be struck between player payment and perceived product value. However, from the Standard Edition's price hike to the segmentation of Ultimate Edition content, this pricing controversy is likely to continue to escalate.
