The fantasy horror television series "Dark Shadows," a massive hit in the late 1960s and early 1970s, has seen several big-screen adaptations over the decades. The version most familiar to modern audiences is undoubtedly the 2012 film starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton. Unfortunately, that 2012 iteration received lukewarm reviews and significantly underperformed at the box office, preventing it from launching a new film franchise.

However, Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind the 2012 film's production and distribution, hasn't given up on the venerable "Dark Shadows" IP. The studio recently announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival that it is once again rebooting "Dark Shadows." This time, it won't be a feature film but will return to its small-screen roots as a new series. Crucially, this new iteration will be an adult-oriented animated series, moving away from live-action. Official details regarding the voice cast and plot are yet to be revealed.
