The second film in the new DC Universe, "Supergirl," officially began its theatrical rollout in multiple countries last week. However, its box office performance has been less than stellar, with a disappointing North American opening weekend of just $38 million and an additional $30 million from international markets, totaling $68 million globally in its first week. This figure stands in stark contrast to its hefty $180 million production budget (excluding marketing costs), marking an undeniable setback. Despite this, DC Studios' top executive quickly addressed the situation publicly.

Peter Safran (pictured above), co-CEO of DC Studios, responded today via "The New York Times" (NYT) to the underwhelming box office debut of "Supergirl." Safran stated, "While 'Supergirl''s box office performance did not meet our expectations, this is just one piece of DC Studios' broader long-term strategy, and we remain confident in that strategy." Clearly, "Supergirl"'s stumble will not deter DC Studios from pursuing its current plans, leaving audiences to see if future projects can turn the tide.
