Hong Kong-based toy brand threezero has announced the latest addition to their "ROBO-DOU" line of robot alloy action figures: the "Griffon Aqua Unit Version" from the anime series "Patlabor," slated for release in Q1 2027.
The TYPE-J9 Griffon is an experimental combat Labor secretly developed by the SEJ Tsuchiura Research Institute with the goal of creating the "strongest Labor." Its most distinctive features are its jet-black body and massive twin head horns. Developed without cost constraints, this unit saw immense resources poured into its creation, showcasing superior technological prowess. It surpasses units like the Ingram in both power and mobility. Its back can be equipped with either a "Flight Unit" for brief aerial maneuvers or an "Aqua Unit" for underwater operations. The OS, a unique and highly efficient system called "ASURA," allows for remarkably agile, almost biological movements.
The "Griffon Aqua Unit Version" is an updated rendition based on the previously released standard model. Crafted in 1/35 scale, the main body stands approximately 24.4 cm tall and boasts over 60 points of articulation. It utilizes ABS, PVC, POM, and die-cast alloy parts to faithfully recreate mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi's sharp, cool head sculpt and sleek, smooth armor lines. The sealed joint structures are wrapped in weathered fabric. The entire figure features a high-gloss black finish, with metallic paint accents added to various circular details.
Each joint features flexible articulation, allowing for dynamic combat poses with various interchangeable hand parts, perfectly capturing the Griffon's overwhelming close-quarters combat prowess seen in the series. Furthermore, by opening the chest armor and pulling up the neck base, the full cockpit can be revealed, accommodating the included pilot figure of Bado. The backpack has been replaced with a newly sculpted "Aqua Unit," meticulously reproducing its elegant curved armor contours and the striking gold paint finish on the thruster nozzles.
